Today we had a 4pm reservation for UnderTow. I checked the temp just as we arrived and my weather app showed 115 degrees.
Back in April Dale and I visited UnderTow's Gilbert location with Dianne and Pete. Today we visited the Indian School Road location in Phoenix and it was MUCH less busy. Dale overheard the bartender telling a patron it was so quiet due to the off season.
Dale got a beer but I started with the Caribbean Punch. Quite good although a tad too sweet for my taste. I like to have a little more sharpness/bitterness to balance out the sweet. Still it was well made and very enjoyable.
We were seated at a two person table with a porthole. Our time there began with a thunder shower before we set sail. Dale noticed that if you observed the video out of the corner of your eye it really felt like you were bobbing up and down as on an actual ship.
For my second drink I ordered a Blue Hawaiian. Again well made but a bit too sweet for my current tastes. Again I like a little bitterness with the sweet. I also appreciate the nuttiness falernum and orgeat can add.
The layout is the same as the Gilbert location and maybe just a teeny bit smaller. The Indian School Road bar is next door to their original location in the Sip building. Dale and I actually entered Sip by mistake. They very nicely told us where we should be and didn't seemed surprised. I don't we've been the first to make that mistake! Anyway, the new location looks virtually the same as the original.
After my second drink I decided I didn't want to overdo it with a third cocktail so I ordered a shot instead. It was rum with strawberry flavor and it came in a baby Moscow Mule cup. Perfect was to finish up our hour and a half sitting.
More photos.
