Dinner and the Intoxicats

 Friday, July 26, 2024

Dinner tonight at Creekside, our favorite supper club. The Intoxicats were having dinner there too.

After dinner we headed next door to the Parkway Theater for a show by the Intoxicats. We've seen them before and to say they're a lot of fun is an understatement. Their sound is an interesting mix of surf, exotica, new wave, and pop made even more interesting with elements of funk.

They sang original material like the Velvet Gorilla but they also did some interesting covers like Blondie's Rapture, Kim Wilde's Kids In America.

The Intoxicats

The Intoxicats also covered and presented a pretty faithful version of Kim Wilde's Kids In America. Love 80s music. I observed lots of old people in the crowd and then realized they were the same age as I am.

The Intoxicats - Beachballs

 Friday, July 26, 2024

Oh and there were TONS of beachballs. I was able to launch one onto the stage.

Before bed Dale said, "What a fun night." I wholeheartedly agree!

Hula Hula Cocktail

Saturday, July 13, 2024

Before cocktail hour with Dale I had a cigar out in the garage.

Finished up the Blue Hawaiian I had left over from the other night.

Brought back the Hula Hula Cocktail. It's been a while.

This is one of the first tiki drinks I made on my own because it's so simple. It's one part gin (I used Bombay Sapphire), one part orange curacao, and one part orange juice.

Dale and I listened to Ultra Lounge Vol. 1: Mondo Exotica. It's been a while since I've listened to this one. It's one of the best Exotica samplers out there.

Also listened to Ultra Lounge: Hey Bartender which is lots of fun as well.

Blue Hawaiian

Stopped by Ken and Norm's recently and they had a whole bunch of On the Rocks brand premade cocktails. One was a Blue Hawaiian. I decided to pick one up.

Saved it for when Mike came over for cigars a few days ago. Good to see Mike. The Blue Hawaiian was okay. It was a little sweet for my taste.

Joey's Orange Speedo

We had Warren over not to long ago and I made my signature tiki cocktail, the Joey's Orange Speedo.

Here's how I made it this time:

3 ounces orange juice (I often use grapefruit juice)

1 1/2 ounces rum (I used Myer's)

1 ounce orange curacao

(recipe calls for falernum but I couldn't find it although later I notice it was in the basement with some other extra booze)

I topped it off with Aperol (although I originally used club soda and I'll sometime use Bubly brand charged water)

Warren loved it.
