Quarantiki.- More of the Jungle Bird

Saturday, April 25, 2020

This one is so good I gave it another go. The weather is getting consistently nicer and nicer so we've been sitting on the porch more and more. Might be time to start setting up the Mermaid Lounge.

Quarantiki - Jungle Bird

Wednesday, April 22, 2020

I tried a new one tonight - the Jungle Bird which was crafted by rum expert Shannon Mustipher. This gem contains pot still Jamaican rum (I used Hamilton, which was recommended in the recipe), Campari (liqueur from the infusion of herbs and fruit - I've never used before), pineapple juice, and fresh lime juice. I mixed it as precisely as I could to the exact measurements in the recipe and the result was quite splendid. Dale, who's not a fan of hard liquor or mixed drinks, took a sip and even he liked it. To him tropical cocktails taste over-sweet but this one had a sharpness and bite to it that really counteracted the sweetness.

Warmish and sunny evening. Dale and I sat on the porch.

Quarantiki - Weekend's End

Another Rum Cow to close out the weekend. Oh, and it's Orthodox Easter. So there's that.

Quarantiki - Tiki Tuesday

Tuesday, April 15, 2020

My brother Pete and his girlfriend lived in Hawaii back in the late 90s/early 2000s. They were married in 2001 and returned to the mainland not to long after that. Pete gave me the above tiki upon his return. I lost it not long after that and have been looking for it ever since. Well, today I found it just in time for Tiki Tuesday. It was pressed against the back of an old wooden shelf in a located in a dim corner. It blended in very well so no wonder I couldn't see it. Glad I found it. It says Hawaii at the bottom.

I made a new drink from a recipe I found in Jeff "Beachbum" Berry's book Sippin Safari.  It's called the Rum Cow and it's awesome and I'm for sure making it again.

Quarantiki - Easter Daiquiri

Sunday, April 12, 2020

Easter today and a rather uneventful one at that. Snowy and stuck inside except to shovel.

Daiquiri for cocktail hour - Shannon Mustipher's Floridita recipe. That lifted my spirits a little.

Quarantiki - Out in the Yard In Search of Tiki Drinks

Saturday, April 11, 2020

Not quite as warm as this past Tuesday but still feeling pretty good with a jacket on and in direct sunlight.

Checked out Sippin' Safari by Jeff Berry to scope out some new and simple tiki drink recipes to try.

Dale and Athena enjoyed the nice weather too.

For cocktail hour I made another Mai Tai. This one looks rather sad as I'd been nibbling on the mint garnish before thinking to take a picture.

You really have to take advantage of these nice days. That's just part of living in Minnesota but it's also a part of the new normal that is shelter-in-place. There are only so many places to go since most places are closed. Any chance to be out of the house is welcome. By the way, it's supposed to snow tomorrow.

Quarantiki - My First Mai Tai

Wednesday, April 8, 2020

Okay, I'm not talking about the first Mai Tai I've ever had but the first one I've made myself.
