Quarantiki - Tiki Tuesday

Tuesday, April 15, 2020

My brother Pete and his girlfriend lived in Hawaii back in the late 90s/early 2000s. They were married in 2001 and returned to the mainland not to long after that. Pete gave me the above tiki upon his return. I lost it not long after that and have been looking for it ever since. Well, today I found it just in time for Tiki Tuesday. It was pressed against the back of an old wooden shelf in a located in a dim corner. It blended in very well so no wonder I couldn't see it. Glad I found it. It says Hawaii at the bottom.

I made a new drink from a recipe I found in Jeff "Beachbum" Berry's book Sippin Safari.  It's called the Rum Cow and it's awesome and I'm for sure making it again.

Shag has been offering coloring sheets lately. I shaded these in with Colorfy and then made a collage with BeFunky.

Quarantiki - Diplomatico Planas and Tiki Tuesday

Tuesday, March 24, 2020

How was work today? Still navigating being a teacher with no students around. It's kinda weird. Stopped by the liquor and grocery stores for some aged white rum and limes. I plan on making a daiquiri for cocktail hour tomorrow.

Oh, and here's a mug from my collection for Tiki Tuesday.

Tiki Tuesday - Recent Tiki Mug Acquisitions

Tuesday, September 19, 2017
A recent visit to Psycho Suzi's allowed me to pick up a few new tiki mugs. The above mug is for Suzi's non-alcoholic tiki drink. I can't remember what it's called and I've never tried it as I prefer my tiki drinks with alcohol.
One of my favorite tiki drinks at Psycho Suzi's is the Fu Manchu. I finally picked up the mug.

I was just going to go with the two but the manager upsold me into getting a Suffering Bastard mug (Suzi's calls the drink the Miserable Bastard).

I already had the brown one but I was informed that the green one was a limited edition and had been ordered my mistake and that it was only one of two left and that they'd NEVER order it again. Well, how could I say no? I made it mine. Okay, so I'm a sucker.

I also have the Shag version of the Suffering Bastard so now I have a lovely set of three.

Tiki Tuesday

While going through photos I found this one from about 5 years ago. I was in Uptown for some reason and came by this house with a big ol' tiki on its second floor porch. Not sure if it's still there. Maybe I'll swing by just to see...

Tiki Tuesday - Brad "Tiki Shark" Parker

Who is Brad "Tiki Shark" Parker? I'd say he's my favorite artist in the vein of tiki pop/lowbrow art.

On  his website he is quoted as saying:

"I'm a 'Tiki Artist': a low-brow artist who specializes in Hawaiian pop-culture. I don't paint historically correct tikis. I paint 'souvenir tikis'. I paint tiki's summer holiday reflection. I celebrate the tiki tourists enjoy on their holiday vacation - found in gift shops and in tiki bars. The tiki I paint is an urban myth; a figment of holiday vacation superstition, like Mr. Jack-o-Lantern, the Easter Bunny, or Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer. My mission as a tiki artist is to give this fun fictional figure an upgrade, and to help it keep up with our always evolving tiki-pop-culture."

Tiki Tuesday

Photo taken this past Saturday while smoking a cigar in the backyard. No tiki drink involved but I used this tiki shot glass for downing some gin.

Tiki Tuesday

This guy is my own creation. I did the line drawing and an app helped me touch it up to make it look like this.
