Summer 2025 - More Cigar Time & Tiki Cocktails

 Saturday, July 26, 2025

Another cigar today. This time a Hoyo de Monterrey Excalibur and it was fantastic.

Also made a couple more Joey's Orange Speedos. This time I left out the orgeat which made it a little less sweet.

Not sure I'm gonna keep using the Sunkist Zero Sugar. Despite being sugarless it's still made to taste quite sweet. If I don't use it next time I may reintroduce the orgeat.

I used a fun tiki glass I got from The Black Lagoon Room. I like their stuff. I got it when they a booth at a previous Big Kahuna Bash.

Speaking of the Big Kahuna Bash we didn't make it to this year's event. This is the seventh year and as sorry as I am to miss it it's probably for the best since the heat and humidity are dangerously high today. Maybe next year. Shag designed the linocut print for the event (see below).

Dale joined me outside as I was getting to the end of my cigar. I was on my 2nd Orange Speedo and he had a glass of white wine.

Listened to Arthur Lyman which is always enjoyable.

Tiki Drinks

Recently Pete, Abby, Xander, and Emma were here for a visit. We went to Bubba Gump's Shrimp Company out at the Mall of America. They were featuring tiki drinks on the cocktail menu.

Pete and I started with the Tiki Lagoon. It contained Captain Morgan spiced rum, Don Q coconut rum, Bols Blue Curacao, pineapple juice, lime juice, Genadine, and Sprite. Both were a teeny bit on the sweet side but otherwise quite good.

For round two we went with the Tiki Jaja. It contained Jaja Blanco tequila, passion fruit and mango puree, pineapple juice, lime juice, and sweet and sour.

Backyard

Thursday, August 3, 2023

As we're moving into summer's final act, at least in terms of how much vacation time is left, I'm trying to take advantage of sitting out in the backyard especially without needing a coat.

Cigar time...

... with a little seltzer.

Big Kahuna Bash 5 - Part 6

Saturday, July 29, 2023

Picked up some cool swizzle sticks. A couple from the Black Lagoon Room. The ones by Shag came with the tiki cocktails.

Also scored a couple of Big Kahuna 5 pint glasses.

Shag designed a limited edition GBKB5 shirt for this event. They were a little spendy but what really kept me from buying one was that, although I love orange, it really doesn't look good on me.

Collins Glasses from Undertow

Wednesday, April 5, 2023

Dianne also picked up some merch at Undertow.

She got some Collins glasses. I wouldn't have minded have these glasses as well as they are uber-cool. However they would have been hard to get back home traveling by plane. To the left are some other mugs in John's collection.

Psycho Suzi's - July 17 Part 1: Lunch and Drinks

Tuesday, July 17, 2018
Drove up to Nordeast for a late lunch at Psycho Suzi's.

I parked myself at my favorite spot at the end of the bar and started with a Crummy Scoundrel which is one of my favorites - very refreshing.

For lunch I ordered the mac and cheese and added bacon. I ordered this last time we were here and it's become my favorite thing since they took the vodka sauce spaghetti off the menu.

For round two I ordered a Mai Tai. I don't think I've ever had the Psycho Suzi's version. Not bad.

The garage doors that open out to the patio/deck were up. The weather was perfect and there was gorgeous sunshine and a soft breeze.

Psycho Suzi's - July 17 Part 4: Tiki Mug Time

Tuesday, July 17, 2018
After some time by the dock I headed back inside to the gift shop. I found the perfect tiki mug. Funny cuz when I picked it out I didn't even look at the back so I didn't notice there was a mermaid on it until after I got home.

Memorial Day Weekend 2018 - Hula Hula Time

Sunday, May 27, 2018

Made another Hula Hula Cocktail tonight. As pictured, I hadn't even taken a sip yet. Made it with the same amount and proportions I always use. Just goes to show how big the Tiki Diablo tiki glasses I got at UnderTow in Phoenix really are. Picked up the Demerara and granulated sugar today I'm going to need to make the Barbabos Rum Punch tomorrow.
