Tiki Mug Collection in the Mermaid Lounge

I started setting out some of the tiki mugs lately. I usually use this table on the porch for a big display but Sylvester's grown quite fond of it as a perch to watch bird, rabbits, and squirells.

So I left him a little room.

Here are some other things I set on the porch.

I've also have some set up in the house although not the collection this year.

Collins Glasses from Undertow

Wednesday, April 5, 2023

Dianne also picked up some merch at Undertow.

She got some Collins glasses. I wouldn't have minded have these glasses as well as they are uber-cool. However they would have been hard to get back home traveling by plane. To the left are some other mugs in John's collection.

Labor Day, 2021 - The Tiki Hour

Monday, September 6, 2021

Today has been a most beautiful summer day which is especially nice on this last official day of summer.

It was a great day for a cigar in the back yard.

This cigar was a La Gloria Cubana.

And it wasn't as strong as the cigar I had a few days ago.

Sat in the backyard with Dale...

...and listend to Mondo Exotica.

We moved inside to the porch and entered the Mermaid Lounge.

And Athena begged for snacks.

I made a Joey's Orange Speedo, or two.

And listened to Ritual of the Savage by Les Baxter.

Quarantiki - Tangerine Speedo

Wednesday, July 8, 2020

This is one of my new favorites. It's from the book Liquid Vacation: 77 Refreshing Tropical Drinks from Frankie's Tiki Room in Las Vegas. I originally made it back in May.

The drink includes amber rum, Campari, creme de cassis, Chambord, lime juice, pear nectar, orange juice, and club soda. For the first one I followed the proportions in the recipe strictly but not some much for the two after that. They were all great by the way. The drink isn't very alcohol heavy but it is incredibly refreshing.

For cocktail hour Dale and I sat on the porch. I with my Tangerine Speedo and Dale with wine. It's been incredibly hot here and today was one of the stickiest of all the many sticky days this summer. We sat in the comfort of our air conditioned porch.

Tiki Mug Inventory 2019

Sunday, September 29, 2019

Here's what I got:

Yes, I realize that a few of the things pictured here are not tiki mugs so, obviously, they are not being counted in the inventory.

I found the above guy in the basement. He's a double of another mug also pictured.

All totaled I counted 52! Three more than last year...

Second Hand Shops with Noel - Sweet Leilani

Saturday, May 4, 2019

Second hand shopping with Noel this afternoon and found this set of 4 tiki mugs. I was shocked because in a lifetime of checking out places that specialize in used stuff I've never seen any tiki mugs. I didn't buy them as they were being sold as a set of 4 and I don't need four of the same mugs for my collection as I'm actually going for variety at this point. On top of that they're brown and I've got enough tiki stuff in brown. ALSO, Leilani mugs seem to be pretty standard. They're all over the internet and can be obtained quite cheap. I figured a picture would suffice.

Spring Break 2019 Tiki Tour: Hula's Modern Tiki - Good Food and Drink

Tuesday, April 2, 2019

Dale and I are in Phoenix for spring break this year. We're staying with Dianne and John along with John's daughter Sarah and her husband Tim. We're also getting to spend lots of time with Brenda and Irv who are now fully settled nearby.

I'm always up for visiting a tiki bar and Dianne recommended we try a place called Hula's Modern Tiki. Excellent choice. The food and drinks were fantastic.

Sarah and Tim, Dale and I, neighbors Kirk and Theresa, all accompanied John and Dianne to Hula's Modern Tiki for dinner and drinks tonight. Sarah and Theresa were jazzed to try the Scorpion Bowl which is a shared drink and a tiki cocktail classic.

I agreed to help out and Dale, not a mixed drink fan, was willing to give it a try.

John was eager to try it too but needed a little help as the straw wasn't quite long enough to reach him.

I think he liked it.

I also tried out Hula's version of the Zombie. Quite good.

The second mug futures a wahine.

After our visit to the dock we headed back inside to stop by the gift shop. Of course they had a mess of new mugs and I picked a couple up (not that I needed them).
