9th Psycho Suzi's Visit for 2019

Thursday, August 15, 2019

Union meeting today so I stopped by Psycho Suzi's before hand.

Of course I started out with the Psychotic Suzi.

And had the Hawaiian Surf pizza for sustenance.

My second round was a Crummy Scoundrel but I thought it tasted a little over-sweet this time.

As I didn't get there until around three o'clock it was a bit on the quiet side.  The manager on duty came over and struck up a conversation with me which was very sweet. After I asked her about business lately she replied that it's been rather slow. I mentioned I had been in for lunch a couple weeks ago with Mom and that the patio was packed. She said it really goes in waves and that the last week has been more quiet than usual. We also had a nice talk about our dogs.

By the time I left I felt quite prepared for my union meeting.

8th Psycho Suzi's Visit for 2019 - Mom!

Wednesday, August 7th, 2019

Mom asked if I could help her get a couple of chairs up to a refinishing place in Nordeast Mpls. not too far from Psycho Suzi's. Suzi's was right on the way but even though our destination was not too far off we had a heckuva time finding it. Anyway, find it we did and we stopped by Suzi's for a nice lunch of pizza, which Mom adores, but  also some fried wontons, which Mom also adores. I had my standard Psychotic Suzi cocktail and  Mom had a beer. We sat out on the patio overlooking the river. It was a gorgeous Minneapolis summer day.

Lucky Cricket 3 for 2019

Sunday, May 5, 2019

After church today Dale and I decided to pick up some brunch but we weren't too excited about our usual options. I suggested Lucky Cricket and Dale pounced on the idea.

I started out with the Tiki Reviver for my first cocktail. The menu describes it thusly: "Rich and mystifying. Rums, coconut, pineapple, lime and spiked with coffee liqueur." It's my new favorite.

Of course I purchased the mug. The website describes as such: "The 'Cannibal King' mug designed by Ken Ruzic. With a headdress of skulls and a hungry scowl, the king of the cannibals will add the perfect atmosphere of dark royalty to any tropical shindig. This mug stands at a commanding 8" in height and has a capacity for 19 oz. of your favorite libation."

We ordered delicious things from the menu to share and we finished with some soft serve swirl.

Lucky Cricket has quite a puffer fish collection.

Interesting tikis...

...and more...

Psycho Brunch

Sunday, March 11, 2018
Dale and I had planned on visiting Psycho Suzi's last night with Maggie and Cindi but some unforseen circumstances got in the way.
Dale felt bad about it since he knew I'd been looking forward to it all week so he took me there for brunch today.
I was up for trying a tiki drink I've never had before so I went with the Crummy Scoundrel. The drink menu describes it as "An absurd blend of amusing flavors and pirate-like fun...but with no pirates. Blackberry, hibiscus, banana, fresh lime. Circa 1972."
It was awesome and I loved it. It even had a little fizz to it.  Dale's having a dry March and so didn't order anything to drink beside coffee.

For brunch I ordered The Samoan which the menu described as "Seasoned roasted pork, jalapeños & cheddar, topped with two fried eggs, and Cholula sour cream on a bed of Suzi's breakfast potatoes." Also awesome.
I managed to get a bathroom selfie and...

...stopped by the gift shop afterward for some tiki shot glasses.
Pretty awesome visit. Just what I need to alleviate the mood brought on by a very gloomy Minneapolis March day.

Cigar Time

Sunday, October 22, 2017
The glorious weather of MEA weekend continues! Although a little cooler today, it was still pleasant enough to sit outside with a cigar in the backyard. The tiki pictured was a bargain I picked up at Bachman's yesterday.

Shag - Wahine Wednesday

Shag is one of my favorite tiki artists. Oh hell, he's just one of my favorite artists in general. Whimsical and fun, he helps keep the spirit of mid-century America alive.

Happy Hour at Psycho Suzi's

Wednesday, July 26, 2017

Some coworkers and I met up this afternoon for happy hour at Betty Danger's Country Club. Psycho Suzi's is just a few blocks away so I made a quick stop there first. Last time the bartender recommended the Cannibal so I decided to give it a try.

On Suzi's drink menu the Cannibal is described as follows:

"Lured into the jungle by wafts of dark rum, pineapple, fresh line, almonds, and mysterious drums, you trip head first into a hole. You know what happens next. Circa 1959"

It was quite delicious.

I ordered the cocktail inside and with all the patio doors open on a  humid day it really did feel rather tropical in the bar. Once I received my drink I took the opportunity to sit on the patio to appreciate the gorgeous Minneapolis summer afternoon. The views of the river, as always, were amazing.

A group of twenty-somethings asked me to take their picture in front of some of the patio tikis. I was happy to help them document some tiki bar memories.

Tiki Tuesday

While going through photos I found this one from about 5 years ago. I was in Uptown for some reason and came by this house with a big ol' tiki on its second floor porch. Not sure if it's still there. Maybe I'll swing by just to see...
