Spring Break 2022 - Trader John's Mai Tai

Monday, April 4, 2022

Spring Break 2022! Made it to Phoenix and were picked up at PHX by Dianne and Brenda. It's great to be here and great to see some sunshine.

It looked like what you see above just before we left for the airport this morning.

Shortly after getting to John and Dianne's we headed over to Brenda and Irv's new place to help them move their TV.

They've got a corner unit which is nice because they get two patios.

Irv had this bottle of Bombay Sapphire on the counter. Sweet how he labeled it. I made a gin and tonic when we got back to John and Dianne's.

The gin and tonic along with the warm weather all felt very summery.

Felt so nice to be outside in shorts and short sleeves.

John offered to make me a Trader Vic's Mai Tai. Of course I accepted.

John grilled salmon and romaine lettuce for dinner. It was all very divine. He's a master of the grill.

Here's the recipe John used for the Mai Tai with a few modifications he made. We'll call his version Trader John's Mai Tai.

Joey's Orange Speedo - My Signature Tiki Cocktail

We had Warren over recently. He loves my signature tiki cocktail, the Joey's Orange Speedo. This signature tiki cocktail has evolved a bit over the  past however-many years. Following is the most recent iteration of the recipe.

Joey's Orange Speedo

3 ounces Plantation Rum

1 1/2 ounces Orange Curaçao

1/2 ounce Falernum

1/2 ounce Orgeat

3 ounces Grapefruit Juice*

Ingredients may be combined in a lowball glass and then stirred or combined in a cocktail shaker, shaken on ice, and then poured into a lowball glass.

Add ice cubes and top off with Club Soda.

*Note: Drink may also be made with orange juice or an orange/pineapple blend.

Quarantiki - Porch Life/Mermaid Lounge

Sunday, July 19, 2020

Dale and I each got a LOT of steps in today partly due to our walk around Lake Nokomis. We believe that all the way around is about 2.8 miles. Again, much more pleasant day than yesterday. Sunny, lower temps, and MUCH less humid along with a glorious breeze that pretty much lasted the whole day.

Due to the wonderful temps and awesome breeze we turned off the air conditioning and opened up the house. It was so pleasant to have the windows open on the porch for cocktail hour. Dale had wine and I made a Joey's Orange Speedo (Ounce and a half each of grapefruit juice, orange curaçao, rum, and one ounce of falernum topped off with club soda). I shake the first three ingredients with ice in a cocktail shaker, strain into a lowball glass, add the ice from the shaker then add the club soda and stir.
