Dale and I had a fun time and talked to some really nice people.
I picked up this really cool print from one of the vendors...
...and also this Red Owl sticker. So retro.
Can't wait for next year.

Next up was King Custom and the Cruisers.
King Kustom and the Cruisers is the name of Bill & Ernie Batson’s 1970s outfit; they played mostly ’50s covers with a lotta Elvis & Conway thown in. They were fantastic. Simply fantastic.
It was nice the humidity broke a little bit as we were watching the bands. We also picked up a nice breeze which was really pleasant.

For my third drink I got the Big Kahuna which the menu described as: "A tasty blend of dark rum, citrus, honey and passion fruit. Who's the Big Kahuna? You're the Big Kahuna!" Dale got another Coors Light. Please note: Dale and I were both drinking lots of water to combat the heat and humidity. We met a nice woman named Tea who was sitting next to us at the bar. It was fun chatting with her.
We then headed out to listen to the Swongos.
The Swongos are an instrumental surf, spy, and exotica band. We've seen them before and they never disappoint.
I downloaded some of their music.

Dale and I found a nice spot to sit at the bar. Where we were getting a little breeze as were were close to some air conditioning vents. The bar was pretty hot and humid cuz they were keeping the back door open for access to the patio.
For my second drink I had the Mai Tai which the menu described as: "A classic exotic cocktail that is quintessential in tiki culture. Fresh lime, orgeat, orange curacao, dark rum, and Hart & Son 1804!

Dale and I headed out for Grumpy's Northeast for the Big Kahuna Bash #6. It was a hot AND humid day.
Dale and I got to Grumpy's around 3:30. It was hot and humid in the bar as well due to having the back door open allowing access to the patiio.
Dale ordered beer. For my first drink I ordered the Grumpy's Grog. This drink was desribed on the menu as: "A drink inspired by the founder of tiki - Donn Beach. A Demerara rum, lime juice, Donn's Mix and your transported to the islands."

For my third, and final, tiki cocktail a got the Big Kahuna. This was the one our new acquaintance, John, got. He didn't care for it. I rather did.
Shag had a great Hawaiian shirt. He seemed to be genuinely having a great time. I have a couple of his books. I shoulda brought one for him to autograph as I saw him doing so for some other folks.

First up for music was The Trashmen's Tony Andreason with the Surf Dogs. They're fun to listen to and fun to watch especially their enthusiastic drummer.
Surfin' Bird, of course, was one of their selections.
Next up were The Swongos, another fun band with a trippy exotica vibe. Above photo is from their Instagram page.
Intoxicats were the headliners. I've never heard them before and they were great. They did an awesome cover of Genius of Love by the Tom Tom Club. They were overall so awesome that I bought a copy of their CD that included a cover of Blondie's Rapture which we listened to on the drive home.

This year's art show at the Big Kahuna Bash featured artists Coop, Big Toe, Tiki Bosko, Derek, and more. I was really interested in a piece by Big Toe (shown middle in the above photo) and would've bought it but the guy doing the sales was never in the room long enough for me to do so. I gave up. Oh well, maybe next year. By the way, Dale was really taken with the pieces by Derek.
However I did pick up the official Grumpy's Big Kahuna Tiki Mug by Shag. There was the option of green or blue (I went with blue). The first two images in the above photo show the front and the back of the blue one.
Above is a computer rendering of the mug showing multiple angles which was posted by Shag on his Instagram page.
Here's are cartoon version of the mug by Shag.
And here is the one I bought. I believe only 100 of them were made. Supposedly there's one already on eBay going for $800.
While waiting to buy a Diet Coke at the bar a guy next to me saw me with my boxed mug and said, "Oh, good for you. You got one!" I told him I was jazzed about it. He said, "You know, Shag didn't make that. He just drew it. Someone else made the mug. I went to Shag and told him that and Shag told me that Frank Lloyd Wright just drew his buildings. He didn't make them." I said, "He's not wrong." He responded, "Yeah, I got owned." Sure enough. Don't mess with Shag.
